Affiliation: Conservative
Occupation: Secondary Education Student/Receptionist
Wedding Date: October 2010 at my fiancé’s parents home in Jacksonville, FL
About Me: I’m the only Jew in my neighborhood and the only Sephardic Jew in my congregation, but I’ve been rolling with being the “odd man out” for a few years now. I’m a Secondary Education major with a type A personality. My fiancé, who will be joining the tribe sometime next year, and I have only $3000 to plan a wedding for nearly 100 people, if not more. Our wedding extravaganza is 90% Do-It-Yourself (DIY) and really pushes the envelope of the typical wedding. Hopefully our craftiness and a lot of help from our friends will get us to our big day without too many sewing machine-related casualties.

About Me: I will admit that I am your classic “Type A” or “Obsessive Compulsive Personality,” but I refuse to be a Bridezilla. I know what I like and don’t like but I am also a creative individual who often gets caught in the “paralysis of analysis” of decision-making. Since starting my wedding planning, I have come to learn that there is a psychological aspect to it. The psychology of who sits where, what colors to use, what type of dress, etc. Try to figure out the psychology behind my wedding…my future non-Jewish husband and I are attempting to create a DIY Winter Wonderland on a December evening in Miami, Florida! Can you hear the “oy vey”?

Wedding Date: April 2010 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
About Me: After 6 years of dating, my fiancé proposed on the day we bought our first house together in a suburb of Philadelphia. I’m fairly certain my knees are still shaking from that incredible afternoon! We immediately decided on a South Florida wedding because my fiancé’s family lives there – planning a wedding from 2000 miles away is a challenge, but insanely fun too! I’m hoping to create a romantic and classic Saturday night affair using the palate of chocolate brown, champagne and blush pink. I’m loving every second of wedding planning and would love to eventually make this a full time career!

About Me: Planning a wedding and having to pay your own bills always struck me as the scariest parts of getting married. So far I’m working on part one and it’s not as painful as I imagined thanks to all the amazing people who are helping me. I just got engaged to my fiancé at the end of May after six months of reading each other’s blogs, five months of communication, and nine dates. We’re a pretty traditional couple who didn’t exactly meet in the most traditional manner. We’re trying to plan a classy, Orthodox wedding… and the rest of our lives, on a shoestring budget, in three months.

Wedding Date/Location: August 2010 in Pescadero, California
About Me: I have dated– and not dated– for many years. I’ve attended many weddings, officiating at four, so far. It wasn’t clear to me that I’d ever have my own wedding, much less would I want to do much of the detailed planning. Humans plan & G-d laughs, though, because I’m engaged and thoroughly loving the process of planning our wedding– so much so that I want to share the details here!

Affiliation: Reform, fiancé is not Jewish
Occupation: Freelance writer, editor, and Web consultant
Wedding Date: December 2009 in Houston, TX
About Me: After dating for nearly five years, my boyfriend and I finally put to rest all of the questions from our friends and family about when we were getting married. The date’s set for this December, but the planning hasn’t been without its challenges (or fun): we’re having a Jewish wedding even though he wasn’t raised Jewish; we gave ourselves just over six months to plan the wedding; and we both have divorced parents, which means we have lots of guest lists to keep up with. To top it off, we’re getting married 1,500 miles away from where we currently live!

Wedding Date: November 2009 in Addison, IL
About Me: After dating for nearly 4 years, my fiance and I got engaged in July 2008, and the freak out promptly began. I felt the need to be STRESSED about wedding planning. What did I find out? Find the right venue and things just fall into place! We are having a modern Jewish wedding with one heck of a party afterward… in a Venetian-style Italian ballroom!

Wedding Date: June 2009 at the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston, IL
About Me: I have always lived between multiple worlds, I come from a Guatemalan Jewish American family of activists and educators. The planning of my wedding is like most things other things we do, a familiar and communal affair. In addition to the Bosa Nova band that will perform, my fiancée’s band rock band Cavalry will be covering various Jewish tunes such as hava negilah and more.

Wedding Date: January 2010 at a Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida
About Me: My fiance and I grew up a mile away from each other, attended the same synagogue, and our parents were friends. But it took until the summer of 2005 for our paths to cross. The connection was immediate, although there were twists and turns before we ended up together in NYC a year later. He surprised me with a proposal in Columbus Circle in February, and we’ve been planning a winter wedding (Florida style) ever since. My fiance and I are hoping for a wedding that reflects our personal style – fun, great music, tasty food and traditional Jewish influences – for our Sunday evening wedding.

About Me: I’m a pretty laid back person. I am planning my wedding in a span of just 5 months and am trying to keep my cool while planning. In the course of one week I got engaged, set my wedding date, found my location, and picked out a dress, so I’m already off to a good start!
